Compared with 316, the carbon content of 316L is less than 0.04%, and the carbon content of 316 is 0.08%. Carbon is easy to combine with chromium in stainless steel welding, resulting in local chromium deficiency, sensitization, contact with corrosive media, such as chloride ions, corrosion occurs. Note that even if you choose 316L as the base material, you should choose the welding material of ER316L, if the welding material is not selected properly, such as the selection of ER316 or ER308 welding wire without L, it will sensitization and rust in the weld. In addition to the base material selection and welding reasons, if the weekend air is everywhere grinding iron powder, or with polished carbon steel wire brush and then grinding stainless steel, iron powder falls on the stainless steel, because of the electrochemical reaction, the same will produce rust, which is called iron ion pollution.
