Product Introduction

AISI 1045 and JIS S45C are essentially the same steel, with a carbon content of 0.45% – 0.50%. AISI 1045 is a medium carbon steel used extensively in induction hardening applications, where the steel undergoes quenching and tempering using induction heating. With its medium carbon content, AISI 1045 provides good strength and toughness levels. AISI 1045 is versatile and can be used in numerous engineering and machinery applications, such as gears, shafts, pins, and more. It has a tensile strength of 570 – 700 MPa (megapascal) and a Brinell hardness of 170-210 HB. Like JIS S45C, AISI 1045 also has good weldability, but it is prone to cracking during quenching and tempering. Its chemical composition includes 0.43-0.50% carbon, 0.15-0.30% silicon, 0.60-0.90% manganese, 0.040% phosphorus, 0.050% sulfur, and 0.25% copper.
