Seamless stainless steel pipe 304 seam, seamless difference in what?

1. Concentricity

The manufacturing process of seamless tubes is to punch a hole in a stainless steel billet at 2200°f, at this high temperature, the tool steel is pressed and drawn to become soft and spiral out of the hole. In this way, the wall thickness of the pipe is uneven and the eccentricity is high. As a result, astm allows the wall thickness difference of seamless tubes to be larger than that of slotted tubes. The stitched tubes are made from precise, cold-rolled sheets (4-5 feet wide per roll). These cold-rolled sheets usually have a maximum wall thickness difference of 0.002 inches. The steel plate is cut to a width of πd, where d is the outer diameter of the pipe. The wall thickness tolerance of the slotted pipe is very small, and the wall thickness is very uniform throughout the circumference.

2, welding performance

Generally, there are certain differences in the chemical composition of welded pipes and seamless pipes. The steel composition for the production of seamless pipes only meets the basic requirements of astm. The steel from which the welded pipe is made contains chemicals suitable for welding. For example, the mixture of silicon, sulfur, manganese, oxygen and triangular ferrite in a certain proportion can produce a welding flux that is easy to transfer heat during the welding process, so that the entire weld is welded through. The lack of the above chemical composition of the steel pipe, such as seamless pipe, in the welding process will produce a variety of unstable factors, not easy to weld and welding opaque.

3, grain size

The grain size of the metal is related to the heat treatment temperature and the time of maintaining the same temperature. The grain size of the annealed welded stainless steel pipe is the same as that of the seamless stainless steel pipe. If the minimum cold treatment is used, the grain size of the weld is less than the grain size of the welded metal, otherwise, the grain size is the same.

4. Pipeline strength

The strength of the pipe depends on the alloy composition, so the seamless stainless steel pipe containing the same alloy and the same heat treatment and the welded stainless steel pipe are essentially the same strength.

After tensile test and three-dimensional vibration test, the tear of the welded stainless steel pipe almost all occurs away from the welding point or the heated area. This is because the weld has less impurities and slightly higher nitrogen content, so the strength of the weld is better than other parts. However, ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers) considers seamed stainless steel pipes to withstand only 85% of the allowable pressure, mainly because the data was collected before the improved welding equipment in use today.
