ASTM A316 is not a valid standard specification for stainless steel plate. The correct standard specification for stainless steel plate is ASTM A240.
ASTM A240 covers chromium, chromium-nickel, and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip for pressure vessels and for general applications. The most commonly used grades of stainless steel plate under this standard are 304/304L, 316/316L, and 321.
