Cold forming
Although 400 has high hardness and strength characteristics, it can still be cold formed by bending. It should be noted that with the increase of yield strength, the molding force required for the same thickness steel plate should also be increased, and the resilience will also be increased. To avoid the risk of edge cracking, the flame cutting edge or shear edge of the cold bending area should be polished. In addition, it is recommended that the outer edge of the bend be lightly and smoothly polished when subjected to tensile stress during bending.
During processing, necessary safety measures must be taken to ensure that personnel are not exposed to the risk of breaking the workpiece during molding.

400 hardness is obtained by accelerated cooling from the austenitizing temperature. After thermoforming, it is only possible to restore the same hardness by re-quenching. It can be expected that the hardness obtained after re-quenching will be different from the hardness measured at the factory of the steel plate, because the quenching equipment used in the production of steel plates and the quenching equipment owned by the processing plant have differences in capacity.
This material can be heated to approximately 250°C (482°F) without a significant decrease in hardness.
