51CRV4 Spring Steel Sheets

 

51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel is chromium-vanadium spring steel. It is an alloy steel similar to 5150 steel, with a small but effective amount of vanadium added to increase hardness. 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel has low deformation characteristics and is easy to heat treatment. 51CrV4/1.8159 Spring steel grade for oil quenching and tempering.

 

51CrV4/1.8159 Spring steel is usually supplied in rolled condition. When used under oil quenching and tempering conditions, 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel combines spring properties with excellent wear and impact resistance. Hardened 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel has excellent toughness and impact resistance, making it an alloy spring steel suitable for withstand stress, vibration and impact parts

A kind of 51CrV4 spring steel

Forging Material:

Forged between 2150 and 1600ºF (1175 to 870ºC). After forging, the alloy should be slowly cooled or transferred to a furnace near the "finishing" temperature. Do not forge at temperatures below 840°C.

 

Heat Treatment:

  • Preheat:

1200-1250F (650-675ºC), balanced.

 

  • Annealing:

Keep at 1100-1300F (595-740ºC) for 2 hours while the air cools. Like the 5150 alloy, the microstructure of this 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel provides the best machinability and is one of the coarse layer pearlite to coarse spheroid.

 

  • Standardization:

51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel has a nominal normalizing temperature of 1650ºF (900ºC). This treatment is followed by air cooling.

 

  • Straightening:

It is best done at 400-800F (205-425ºC).

 

  • High temperature:

Soak at 1550-1650F (845-900ºC) for 10 to 30 minutes. For vacuum hardening, use the high side of the high temperature range and soaking time.

 

  • Quenching:

Oil quench to hand temperature, 150F (65ºC). Immediately temper 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel. Note that the vacuum furnace must have oil quenching capability.

 

  • Temper:

It is recommended to temper at 400-1200 (205-650ºC) for 1 hour per inch (25mm) thickness. (Minimum 2 hours). The air cools to room temperature. For most applications, the tempering of 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel will be between 400-600°C

 

Machinability:

easily machined from coarse pearlite to coarse spherical microstructure. 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel has a machinability rating of 59.

 

Welding:

can be welded, but welding this steel must be preheated and post-welding stress relief.

The welding of 51CrV4/1.8159 spring steel should be carried out in the annealed state, rather than on the quenched and tempered material.
