51CrV4(1.8159) spring steel has good mechanical properties and process properties, high hardenability, adding vanadium to fine-grain steel, reduce overheating sensitivity, improve strength and toughness, with high fatigue strength, yield ratio is also high, but poor weldability, low cold deformation plasticity.

Study on low temperature brittleness of 51CrV4 spring steel

The low temperature brittleness of 51CrV4 spring steel was studied. The results show that the impact energy of 51CrV4 spring steel is 20 ~ 25J at -60 ~ 0℃, and it decreases with the decrease of temperature. At -60℃, the impact energy remained at a high level and no brittle fracture occurred. The impact fracture of 51CrV4 spring steel is a mixed fracture with cleavage, tearing and dimple aggregation. Energy spectrum analysis shows that 51CrV4 spring steel contains a small amount of non-metallic inclusions composed of silicon and oxygen, belonging to silicate inclusions.
