Product Introduction

Stainless Steel Alloy Duplex 2205

With austenite + ferrite biphase structure, Cr content in 18%~28%, Ni content in 3%~10%. Some steel also contains Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, N and other alloying elements, with high strength, corrosion resistance, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and other characteristics, mainly used in oil refining, fertilizer, paper making, petroleum, chemical industry, seawater and high temperature resistance of concentrated nitric acid equipment. Internationally commonly used are: 2205, S31803, 2507, S32750, S32760, Ldx2304 and so on.

2205

The yield strength of duplex stainless steel is more than twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, which allows designers to reduce weight when designing products, making this alloy more affordable than 316,317 L. This alloy is particularly suitable for the -50°F/+600°F temperature range. Applications beyond this temperature range can also consider this alloy, but there are some limitations, especially when applied to welded structures.

Corrosion resistance

Uniform corrosion

Due to the chromium content (22%), molybdenum (3%) and nitrogen content (0.18%), the corrosion resistance of 2205 is better than that of 316L and 317L in most environments.

Local corrosion resistance

The content of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen in 2205 makes it have strong resistance to point corrosion and gap corrosion in oxidizing and acidic solutions

Stress corrosion resistance

The biphase microstructure of stainless steel helps to improve the resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

At a certain temperature, tension, oxygen and chloride presence, austenitic stainless steel will have chloride stress corrosion. Because these conditions are not easy to control, the use of 304L, 316L and 317L is limited in this regard.

Corrosion fatigue resistance

The high strength and corrosion resistance of 2205 alloy make it have high corrosion fatigue resistance. Processing equipment is susceptible to corrosive environments and loading cycles, and the 2205 features are ideal for such applications.
